How to update prices and handle sold cars on Facebook Marketplace

Edit the listing for a new price, and use Mark as sold when a car sells. A new price on your website or dealer page does not change your Facebook ad on its own.

How to change a car's price on Facebook Marketplace

Edit the listing itself. Your Facebook ad is a separate post, so a price drop on your dealer page does not reach it on its own.

Meta's steps on a computer:

  1. From your Feed, click Marketplace.
  2. Click Selling, then Your listings.
  3. Click Options on the car's listing, then Edit listing.
  4. Change the price and click Update.

Can you show buyers it is a price drop?

Meta's help page on editing listings mentions no price drop label or buyer alert, so if you want buyers to know, say it in the description:

  • Use a price you really asked, in good faith, for a good while. The Competition Act (section 74.01) counts an earlier price only if a substantial volume sold at it, or it was offered in good faith for a substantial period of time. The Competition Bureau warned about inflated regular prices on November 25, 2025.
  • Keep it all-in in Ontario. OMVIC says an advertised price must include every fee the dealer intends to collect except HST and licensing, and the ad must say clearly that HST and licensing are extra. That covers online marketplaces and social media too.
  • Update the "was" line too. It stays in the description when the price changes again.

What to do when a car sells

Mark the listing as sold on Facebook the same day. Meta says it is then hidden from everyone else on Marketplace, and every buyer who messaged you about it is told it sold.

  • Mark as pending: a deal agreed but not final. Buyers who messaged you are told, and new buyers see it is pending before they can message you.
  • Mark as available: the deal fell through. Buyers who messaged you before are told it is available again.

In Ontario, OMVIC expects it too. Its Advertising Guideline says that when a vehicle is sold or no longer available at the advertised price, dealers "must promptly remove or update the advertisement".

Renew, or delete and relist?

Renew or edit a car you are still selling. Delete only an ad that is wrong or posted twice. Meta's help pages on renewing and deleting do not say a relisted ad reaches more buyers.

Meta says a listing can stay up while you are actively selling. Listings inactive for 2 years or more may be deleted, and renewing or editing resets that clock. To renew: Selling, Your listings, then Renew on the car.

If you do relist a car, delete the old ad first so the same car never shows twice.

Why stale prices and sold cars cost dealers

A stale ad brings messages your rep cannot turn into a sale.

  • Sold cars still up: buyers message about a car you can no longer sell.
  • Old prices: an ad below your lot price brings buyers expecting that price. One above it makes the car look overpriced.
  • Wrong kilometres: the ad no longer matches the car on your lot.
  • Many accounts: each rep posts from their own profile, so one price drop can mean several ads to fix.

How DealerJet helps today

With Update prices on Facebook on, DealerJet changes prices on Connected ads, and Sync with Facebook shows which ads no longer match your lot, including sold cars still up. Auto-renew and repost of aging listings is Coming soon.

Price drops reach your ads

  • Each person has their own Update prices on Facebook switch. New accounts start with it on.
  • A new price on your AutoTrader.ca or CarGurus dealer page arrives with the nightly refresh, or at once with Refresh from source.
  • DealerJet changes the price on the connected ad while the rep's Chrome is open, and checks that Facebook shows it.
  • Only Connected ads change, and only the price. An ad link that looks wrong is left alone.

If your own ad still shows an old price, for example with the switch off, the car's Inventory card says "Price changed, Facebook not updated", with the difference.

Sold cars stop posting, and Sync finds the ads still up

  • Mark a car sold in DealerJet, or let the nightly refresh see it has left your dealer page (if your page lists 10 or more cars), and DealerJet stops posting it.
  • Press Sync with Facebook under Posting, Active listings. It reads your own Selling page and matches each ad to its car, checking the facts buyers see, like the price and kilometres.
  • Sold mismatch: sold in DealerJet but still live on Facebook, or the other way around.
  • Mismatch found: both values side by side, so a wrong price or kilometres stands out.
  • Sync only reads Facebook. It never posts, edits or deletes an ad.

Questions dealers ask

How do I lower the price on a Facebook Marketplace car listing?

Go to Marketplace, Selling, Your listings, click Options on the listing, then Edit listing. Change the price and click Update.

How do I show a price drop on Facebook Marketplace?

Change the price with Edit listing and say it in the description. Meta's help page on editing listings mentions no price drop label or buyer alert. If you quote the old price, it must be one you really asked, in good faith, for a good while, and in Ontario advertised prices must be all-in.

Should I renew or delete and relist a Marketplace listing?

Renew or edit a car you are still selling. Meta says either one resets the listing's 2-year inactivity clock, and its help pages do not say relisting reaches more buyers. Delete only an ad that is wrong or posted twice.

Should I mark a sold car as sold or delete the ad?

Mark it as sold. Meta says the listing is then hidden from everyone else on Marketplace, and buyers who messaged you are told it sold. In Ontario, OMVIC expects a sold car's ad to be removed or updated promptly.

Does DealerJet remove sold cars from Facebook Marketplace?

No, not today. DealerJet stops posting a sold car. When a rep presses Sync with Facebook, it tags Sold mismatch on a sold car whose saved ad link is still live on that rep's Selling page.

Does DealerJet update prices on Facebook automatically?

Yes, on Connected ads, when Update prices on Facebook is switched on and the rep's Chrome is open. After the nightly refresh (or Refresh from source) brings in a new price, the rep's Chrome changes the ad and checks that Facebook shows it.
