How to post your CarGurus inventory to Facebook Marketplace

DealerJet imports your CarGurus dealer page, fills Facebook Marketplace's vehicle form for every car, and posts from your reps' own Facebook accounts.

Posting CarGurus cars by hand

By hand, someone retypes every car. Since January 30, 2023, Facebook no longer supports vehicle listings from business Pages in Canada (Meta's notice, archived copy), so dealers who list on Marketplace post from staff's own profiles.

For every car, someone has to:

  • Save the photos from CarGurus and upload them to Facebook
  • Type in the price, year, make, model, kilometres and specs
  • Write a description with your dealership's details
  • Edit the ad when the price changes or the car sells

Step by step with DealerJet

  1. Copy your CarGurus dealer page link. The page that lists your whole lot, not one car. How to find it.
  2. Paste it into DealerJet. Inventory, Manage sources, paste the link, press Import.
  3. Keep Chrome open. The DealerJet Chrome extension fetches each car's photo gallery from CarGurus in your browser. Until a car's photos arrive, it waits in Needs review instead of auto-posting with one photo.
  4. Check Needs review. A car missing anything Facebook needs waits there, tagged with what is missing.
  5. Post. One click per car, Auto-publish, or Scheduled posting, always from the rep's own Facebook account. The schedule posts 1 to 10 cars a day per rep, spaced out.

Scheduled posts start at your start time and go out one at a time, at least your minimum gap apart, until the day's number is reached. See how DealerJet works and how many cars to post a day.

Use your dealership's page on CarGurus, the one that lists all your cars. Its address looks like this: cargurus.ca/Cars/m-Your-Dealer-sp123456

  • Open your dealership's page on cargurus.ca and copy the address from Chrome's address bar.
  • The sp number at the end identifies your dealership on CarGurus. DealerJet needs it.
  • A link to one car (with /details/ in it) will not import. Copy your dealer page instead.

What comes across from CarGurus

Photos, price, kilometres, year, make, model, trim, body style, colours, transmission and fuel come into DealerJet, and the extension types them into Facebook's form.

  • Photos: the full gallery, fetched by the extension. Up to 20 go on each Facebook ad, in the order you choose. Post only photos your dealership owns or has permission to use.
  • Kilometres: kept in kilometres. A 0 km car imports as 0 km.
  • Price, year, make, model and trim.
  • Body style, colours, transmission and fuel, when CarGurus lists them.

The ad's description is what is in DealerJet's Your Ad Description box (very long text is trimmed to fit Facebook), with your compliance footer added once at the bottom: your disclosure text, dealership name and Dealer # when entered, plus the car's stock number when CarGurus lists one. See dealer ad rules in Canada.

  • Price, year, make and model follow your CarGurus page. Fix those there.
  • Your fixes to body style, colours, condition, transmission, fuel, kilometres and trim are kept on the next refresh.
  • Location is left as Facebook sets it. DealerJet does not fill it.

Sold cars and price changes

A Marketplace ad does not change when your CarGurus page changes. A sold car's ad stays up, and a price drop on CarGurus does not reach Facebook on its own.

Sold cars

  • Every night, DealerJet reads your CarGurus page again. If the page lists 10 or more cars, a car that has left it is marked Sold and stops being posted.
  • It does not mark cars sold when your page fails to load.
  • The car's Facebook ad stays up until you take it down. If DealerJet saved the ad's link, Sync with Facebook flags it as Sold mismatch.

Price changes

  • When the price changes on your CarGurus page, the nightly refresh (or Refresh from source) brings it in.
  • With Update prices on Facebook switched on, DealerJet changes the price on the connected ad while the rep's Chrome is open, and checks that Facebook shows it.
  • Only ads Connected to the car are changed, and only the price.

Checking every ad

Sync with Facebook, under Posting, Active listings, reads your Facebook Selling page and matches each ad to its car, checking the facts buyers see. It never posts, edits or deletes anything on Facebook.

CarGurus vs Facebook Marketplace

You do not have to pick one. CarGurus gives each car a deal rating. On Marketplace, a person posts each car from their own profile. DealerJet uses your CarGurus dealer page to fill your Marketplace ads, so the same cars can be on both.

DealerJet updates the price on Connected ads, and Sync with Facebook flags sold cars whose saved ads are still up. Taking a sold ad down is still up to you.

Questions

Can I post my CarGurus listings to Facebook Marketplace?

Yes, from a person's own Facebook profile. DealerJet imports your CarGurus dealer page and fills Facebook Marketplace's vehicle form for every car, so nobody retypes it. Follow Facebook's Commerce Policies and your province's advertising rules.

Which CarGurus link do I paste into DealerJet?

Your dealership's page, the one that lists your whole lot. It looks like cargurus.ca/Cars/m-Your-Dealer-sp123456. A link to a single car will not import.

Why does Chrome need to stay open after I import from CarGurus?

The DealerJet Chrome extension fetches each car's photo gallery from CarGurus in your browser. Until a car's photos arrive, it waits in Needs review instead of auto-posting with one photo.

Will kilometres come across correctly?

Yes. Kilometres stay in kilometres, and a 0 km car imports as 0 km.

What happens on Facebook when a CarGurus car sells?

DealerJet stops posting it once you mark it sold, or once the nightly refresh sees it has left your CarGurus page (if your page lists 10 or more cars). The Facebook ad stays up until you take it down. If DealerJet saved the ad's link, Sync with Facebook flags it as Sold mismatch.

Is DealerJet a CarGurus partner?

No. DealerJet is independent and not affiliated with CarGurus or Meta. It reads your dealership's own public CarGurus pages.
